2. Identify possible accident scenarios

A risk situation can be characterized by a potentiality (i.e. a probability that the situation will occur, given the hazards present) and an intrinsic impact (i.e. a foreseeable consequence linked to the appearance of the situation, which would be specific to the conditions in which the situation would have appeared). This "potentiality – impact" pair defines the severity of the risk.

The aim of the hazard study, and more specifically of the risk analysis, is to reduce the probability of occurrence of the risk (prevention) and/or to reduce its consequences (configuration, protection system, intervention). To achieve this, we must first :

• define all possible scenarios that could lead to an accident;

• determine its components ;

• identify triggering factors...
