Accident
An undesired event, such as the release of a toxic substance, a fire or an explosion resulting from uncontrolled developments during the operation of a facility, which has consequences/damage for people, property, the environment and the company in general.
This is the occurrence of a dangerous phenomenon, combined with the presence of vulnerable targets exposed to the effects of this phenomenon.
Major accident
Event such as a major emission, fire or explosion resulting from uncontrolled developments occurring during the operation of an establishment covered by this Directive, entailing a serious immediate or delayed danger to human health inside or outside the establishment and/or to the environment, and involving one or more dangerous substances.
