3. Identify the different steps of the ERS

The health risk assessment consists of two parts:

The first part is devoted to a clear summary of the situation under consideration (based on available data from the impact study and a site visit) and to a precise definition of the study’s objectives.

This first part involves identifying all the factors to be considered during a health risk assessment (HRA). This includes:

identifying all substances likely to be emitted from the site (and quantifying them to the extent possible);
selecting potentially hazardous chemicals—that is, those for which toxicity has been demonstrated;
identifying the different types of populations present in the vicinity of the site (inventory of potential targets).
