Major accident
An event such as a major emission, fire or explosion resulting from uncontrolled developments during operation, leading to serious, immediate or deferred consequences for the interests referred to in Article L. 511-1 of Code de l’environnement , and involving one or more dangerous substances or preparations.
Hazard
Probability that an accidental phenomenon will produce effects of a given intensity at a given point, over a given period of time. The hazard is therefore the expression, for a given type of accident, of the pair (probability of occurrence * intensity of effects).
