To identify the classification system that applies to you, you need to know the existing systems and their specific features. Facilities presenting a risk to the environment are listed in the ICPE (Installations Classées pour la Protection de l'Environnement) nomenclature, according to their activity or the use of certain toxic, flammable or explosive substances...

There are four grading regimes, from the least severe to the most severe:

  • D for installations subject to declaration ;

  • DC for installations subject to declaration and periodic inspection ;

  • E for facilities subject to registration ;

  • A for facilities subject to authorization and, within this category, Seveso facilities presenting the greatest risks.
