1. What is approved packaging for dangerous goods?
All dangerous goods must be packed in an approved packaging, i.e. one that has been tested for leak-tightness, strength, etc., in accordance with the requirements set out in Chapter 6 of the ADR, entitled "Requirements for the construction of packagings, intermediate bulk containers (IBCs), large packagings, tanks and bulk containers, and the tests they must undergo". This approval will ensure the safe transport of dangerous goods.
Part 6.1.3 (Marking) further specifies that "All packaging must bear durable, legible markings placed in a location and size relative to the packaging so that they are easily visible", such as:
