8. Elastomer and plastics industry

The elastomer and plastics industry uses silicones to manufacture parts, including prototypes, small series and composites, modify polymer properties, and solve engineering problems caused by thermal, mechanical and chemical aggression.

Silicones are prized for their wide operating temperature range, durability even in outdoor applications, elasticity and waterproofing, lubricating properties, electrical insulation qualities over a wide operating temperature range, and water resistance.

The applications of different types of parts have given rise to an abundance of standardization, and the following short, non-exhaustive list complements the standards cited for other industrial sectors:
