1. Identifying irresponsible user behavior
There are a number of ways of identifying user behavior and expectations in terms of sustainability (concerning an existing product or service). Indeed, users often have a distorted impression of what constitutes irresponsible behavior. It's important for you, the designer, to highlight both the impacts generated during use and the perception that this generates among users.
Surveys, using open-ended or semi-open-ended questions, can be a good means of investigation. But you need to define the target audience beforehand, and make sure that the people you ask belong to that target. Note that it's just as interesting to ask users about what they consider to be virtuous behavior as it is to ask them about unsustainable behavior. For this, you can use fictitious scenarios involving personas.
