6. Mistakes to avoid

Beware of preconceived ideas about material substitution. A renewable material of plant origin is not necessarily less impactful than a non-renewable material. It all depends on the context: availability of supply, quantity required, etc. In all cases, you need to ensure that material substitution, for a given functional unit, does not result in the transfer of pollution to other phases of the life cycle, apart from extraction or production.
