4. Knowing the simplified life cycle assessment tools

To overcome the difficulties of implementing an LCA or flow diagrams, you can carry out simplified life cycle assessments. These are conducted over the entire life cycle. They are based on more qualitative data that is often held internally. The cost and time required to complete them are considerably reduced. They provide a perceived and semi-quantitative environmental assessment of the system across all five life cycle phases: extraction and preparation of raw materials, production, distribution, use, and end-of-life management. You can use the following tools:

  • the MET Matrix;

  • the Ecological Matrix;

  • checklists;

  • the ESQCV.
