1.1 Definitions of innovation
Since the 1980s, a number of authors have attempted to define innovation at both social and organizational levels. However, in order to avoid taking one side over the other, and to aim for a consensual approach, the OECD definition of innovation was adopted in the third edition of the Oslo Manual in 2005. It is described as :
"The implementation of a new or significantly improved product (good or service) or process, a new marketing method or a new organizational method in a company's practices, workplace organization or external relations."
