1.1 Technological heritage: an indispensable foundation

A brief reminder of a few concepts is in order, in particular what constitutes science (knowledge), technique (know-how) and technology (design and manufacturing activity), in order to clearly situate what an organization's technological heritage represents, which is an asset that can be enhanced through technology transfer.

As the offspring of science and technology, technology can be reduced neither to the mere application of scientific discovery, nor to the mere implementation of empirical techniques.
