3. How to choose the product space?

The choice of products in the product area depends first and foremost on the objective and theme of the study. The following questions will help you identify these elements:

  • What product am I studying (an alarm sound, a lighting system, a cell phone case, a perfume bottle, etc.) and what sensory modalities are involved (hearing, vision, olfaction, taste, touch)?

  • For the product I'm studying, and among the set of design variables that define it, which are fixed (which constitute problem data), and which are variable (which will be the object of design decisions)?

  • What is the overall aim of the study?

    • improve perceived quality ;

    • understand the influence of different product design variables on...
