The first step is to identify and qualify an initial set of information sources that will be accessible via SharePoint.

As standard (i.e. without further development), SharePoint's search engine can interface with a wide variety of data sources:

  • all content stored in SharePoint ;

  • public folders in your exchange mailbox ;

  • your network shares containing documents ;

  • your intranet ;

  • public websites, for example your own or those of your competitors ;

  • private websites, i.e. based on subscription-based authentication;

  • business applications such as customer relationship management (CRM) or human resources management (HRM);...
