4. What is the technical examination?

During this stage, the examiner checks :

• compliance of the application with certain technical requirements laid down in the French Intellectual Property Code (title of the invention, description, drawings, claims and abstract);

• respect for the principle of unity of invention ;

• the patentability of the invention.

It is during this stage that the preliminary search report and the written opinion on the patentability of the invention are drawn up.

It is also during this stage that the patent application is published, opening the 3-month period for third parties to comment.

The final search report is then drawn up, taking into account any comments from third parties.
