4. How are search results presented?
A single query often generates thousands or even millions of results. Search engine results pages (SERPs) organize these results into groups of ten, ranked in descending order of relevance according to the criteria described above. The display of results has evolved over the years, in particular to adapt to mobile usage. A results page generally comprises the following elements.
Sponsored links, where applicable, resulting from SEA (see above) and designated by the "Ad" logo.
Knowledge graph: this is the box on the right, usually for factual queries about people, places, companies or organizations. It contains fairly summary data, usually extracted from Wikipedia or knowledge bases. The purpose of the knowledge graph is to contextualize the search and provide quick answers.
