2. Protein chips

After DNA chips, whose technology is now well mastered, researchers and start-ups are now developing protein chips.

These developments are of interest to biologists, doctors and the biotech industry alike, because in the living world, it's proteins, not genes, that do the work. Proteins catalyze chemical reactions, control the conduction of nerve impulses and carry hormonal signals throughout the body. Proteins are instantaneous indicators of the state of the human body, whereas genes provide information on predispositions.
