7.1 Choose your software support tools with the future in mind
Efficient management of measuring equipment requires the use of IT tools. Numerous solutions are available on the market, and in-house development is always an option. Investment in software (or in-house development) entails costs that far exceed the cost of acquiring licenses. It's also important to bear in mind that the chosen solution will entail incompressible indirect costs: training, team familiarization, data entry, interfacing with the company's other IT tools, etc. An appropriate choice therefore requires the ability to look to the future, as changes are bound to occur in the future (changes in standards, changes in practices, new needs in terms of metrology, etc.).
