2. What performance indicators can be set up in a metrology laboratory?

Let's imagine a company that manufactures objects and takes measurements at various stages of product development (testing, manufacturing and quality assurance). The measurements taken are related to mechanics, temperatures and electricity.

The company's metrology function is carried out by a technician and three operators, who perform some (around 60%) of the calibrations and periodic checks on the company's measuring equipment. The remaining 40% of the work is outsourced to a service provider.

In addition to calibrating or checking measuring instruments, the metrology manager's role in this company is to guarantee the quality of measurements taken at the various stages of product development. This includes training operators to write down measurement results with the estimated uncertainty of the measurement.
