8. Applications, a few examples

Since its inception, microanalysis has been applied to all types of materials, from metallurgy and polymers to mineralogy, biology and food processing. These materials can be divided into two categories: hard materials (metals, minerals, ceramics) and soft materials (polymers, biomaterials, etc.).
