2. Ion beam devices

This category refers to analyzers whose operating characteristics are related to the trajectory of a beam of charged particles passing through them to reach the detector at its outlet.

This category was initially dominated by mass spectrometers with magneto-electrostatic analyzers, also known as "sector" mass spectrometers. They are still available for purchase from manufacturers such as Waters, ThermoFisher Scientific, Jeol..., but their use in laboratories is more closely linked to their application in the determination and detection of dioxins, and their use in structural analysis is becoming rarer. Their mode of operation relates the m/z value of an ion initially accelerated under a voltage V 0 to their trajectory of radius r in a part of the analyzer subjected to the action...
