7. Conclusion

A comprehensive range of thermal analysis and calorimetry equipment is currently available to address a wide range of process safety issues. Microcalorimetric techniques are mainly used for initial screening and the study of secondary reactions, which often involve high energies, and for which the milligram scale makes it possible to work in complete safety.

Reaction calorimetry, working on a larger scale (100 ml to 1 l), is designed for process optimization and the study of scale-up problems.

Adiabatic techniques make it possible to study thermal runaway directly. In many cases, pressure measurement is also possible, which opens up the field of vent sizing problems.
