Adiabatic; adiabatic

A system is said to be adiabatic when it does not exchange energy with its environment. In thermal process safety, it is often assumed that, in the event of failure, the system is under adiabatic conditions. This approximation represents a major risk, as it neglects thermal losses.

MTSR; Maximum Temperature of Synthesis Reaction

This is the temperature that can be reached in the event of a cooling failure, taking into account only the energy released by the synthesis reaction (or main reaction) and on condition that the reactor feed is immediately stopped.
