3. Measurement and sensor

Since the aim is to determine the variable mass of the sample, the measuring device must be capable of continuously recording a mass indication. Conventional balances are not suitable for this purpose; special instruments have been designed specifically for this type of application. In particular, great care must be taken to maintain a stable measurement throughout the experiment. Unlike a conventional balance, the time scale of the measurement can exceed several hours.
