Detection is a special case of classification, obtained by restriction to two hypotheses, "absence of signal" H 0 , and "presence of signal" H 1 , and two decisions "absence of signal" δ 0 , and "presence of signal" δ 1 . Nevertheless, we generally distinguish the detector on the one hand, from the two-class classifier on the other, by giving it a dissymmetrical structure with respect to the two hypotheses.
