5. Example of a reference laboratory
In this chapter, we present, for a few selected electrical quantities, the reference devices required, the connection to the calibration chain, the measurement ranges and the corresponding uncertainties.
The uncertainties quoted for the selected quantities are determined by type A methods (evaluation by statistical methods), and type B methods. They take into account many factors which determine the accuracy and reliability of these calibrations. These factors are linked, for example, to the standards which establish traceability, to the calibrated object itself and its drift, to the facilities and ambient conditions, to the methods applied, to the characteristics of the equipment used, to the operators and their general knowledge of the experiment, etc. All these factors must be taken into account when determining the accuracy and reliability of calibrations.
