2. Metrology terminology

2.1 Metrological characteristics

The links between a sensor and the quantity it measures are defined by its operating characteristics.

  • Measuring range. Absolute value of the difference between the extreme values that can be assumed by the quantity to be measured, for which the indications of a sensor, obtained within the nominal range of use in a single measurement, must not be subject to an error greater than the maximum tolerated error.

  • Minimum range, maximum range. Values of the quantity to be measured corresponding to the minimum and maximum limits of the measurement range.

  • Zero. Value taken as the origin of the information...
