2. Impact of parks, rooftops and urban agriculture on soil biodiversity

Soil organisms are sensitive to disturbance and are therefore good indicators of environmental pressures at local and landscape scales. The aim of this section is to use the bioindicative properties of soil biodiversity to guide urban development management.

2.1 Characterization of urban development

Cities are characterized by a large number of developments that meet a variety of needs, some of which have non-waterproofed soils that are voluntarily or involuntarily vegetated.
