1.1 Most efficient and advanced stage of development

Best Available Techniques BAT (or – Best Available Technologies) are defined as the most effective and advanced stage in the development of activities and their methods of operation. They must demonstrate their practical suitability as the basis for emission limit values aimed at avoiding and, where this is not possible, generally reducing emissions and the impact on the environment as a whole.

  • Best means: the most effective techniques for achieving a high general level of protection for the environment as a whole.
