5. Monitoring classified facilities

5.1 Monitoring bodies

The departmental prefect receives declarations and applications for registration and authorization of facilities classified for environmental protection, and handles all the necessary administrative procedures.

On a technical level, it relies on a Classified Installations Inspectorate, coordinated by the regional directorates for the environment, planning and housing (DREAL) or the regional and interdepartmental directorate for the environment, planning and transport (DRIEAT) for the Île-de-France region.

Classified facility inspectors are sworn government officials appointed by the Prefect on the recommendation of the Regional Director for the Environment, Planning and Housing, and reporting to :
