2. Activities covered by the declaration system with periodic inspection

The categories of facilities covered by the system of declaration with periodic inspection are defined by decree by the Conseil d'Etat, according to the risks they present. Like facilities subject to simple declaration, these facilities present potential risks to the environment, but the risks are greater in view of the substances or equipment required for their operation.

The nomenclature of classified installations, appended to article R. 511-9 of the French Environment Code, has undergone a number of modifications in order to introduce this new regime. Decree no. 2006-678 of June 8, 2006 (JORF no. 133 of June 10, 2006) initially introduced the new regime for some thirty headings.
