4. Conclusions

In this article, we have drawn up a comprehensive inventory of the analytical methods and techniques used in laboratories to characterize and quantitatively assess the quality of natural waters, and more specifically those used for human consumption.

Drinking water is constantly monitored by water utility companies and rigorously controlled by public authorities in application of French regulations (modified decree of 3.01.1989). These stipulate the location and number of sampling points, the types of physico-chemical and bacteriological analyses to be carried out, and their annual frequency.

The aim of these checks is to verify not only the physical, chemical and sanitary quality of the water, but also the sanitary quality of production, storage and distribution facilities.
