7. Conservation and outlook

Conservation concerns are often the main reason for analyzing objects and works of art. This makes it possible to explain problems such as the destruction of glass objects attacked by products released by wooden cabinets, the fading, blackening and color changes of exhibited objects, etc. Identifying the glues and coloring agents used in undocumented, highly illusionistic restorations from periods prior to the 21st century [58] is useful in determining the most appropriate procedure for de-restoring and re-restoring the object in compliance with health standards governing toxic products and current ethical rules of conservation. The contemporary artistic approach, which places little emphasis on the durability of objects, and the absence of a long apprenticeship in technical knowledge, lead artists to use materials with a short lifespan and thus to expose themselves to serious conservation...
