4. Securing Costs and Investments

Deploying an EV charging infrastructure project requires significant initial investments (CAPEX) and generates new operating costs (OPEX). Rigorous financial engineering is required to ensure the long-term profitability of the transition.

4.1 Financial Structuring: CAPEX vs. OPEX

Two main acquisition models are competing for businesses.

  • Ownership purchase (CAPEX model): The company purchases the equipment, finances the connection and civil engineering work, and becomes the owner of the infrastructure. This model offers the lowest total cost over the long term and full control over the asset, but requires a significant immediate cash outlay and places the risk of technological obsolescence on the company.
