 INTRODUCTION

Modeling the mechanical behavior of the cell cytoskeleton is an essential step towards understanding many biological mechanisms. Systems in a state of tensegrity (hereinafter referred to as "tensegrity systems") are particularly well suited to such modeling. Their topologically and geometrically rich structural composition makes it possible to simulate the architecture of the cytoskeleton, and the results obtained are in excellent agreement with experimental observations.

A glossary is provided at the end of the article.
