2. Transformation parameters

Whatever the plastic part to be produced, the processor has two parameters for setting the processing machines: temperature and speed. The permissible control range is relatively wide in the general case, but becomes significantly narrower when the parts are small.

2.1 Influence of speed

  • In extrusion, the transformation speed is given by the screw rotation speed, and in injection molding, by the injection speed.

Consider the following extrusion parameters:

he tooling air gap,

d characteristic dimension of the tool (e.g. tube diameter),

v draft speed,

Q material flow rate,dγ /dt average shear rate,...
