3.1 Filling and compaction: influential factors
The design of the cavity, and in particular the position of the injection point, determines the quality of the part, through filling and compaction. The latter largely determines the choice of shrinkage coefficient, which in turn determines part geometry.
The objectives of cavity filling are to ensure that the material front reaches all points of the part, and that the material is sufficiently fluid to allow the holding pressure to build up uniformly. The aim of compaction, achieved through the holding phase (see [
