ABSTRACT

Although injection moulds for thermoplastics do not appear to be very complex in principle, their usage involves a large number of technical constraints. Therefore, the industrial characteristics of these moulds are closely linked to the understanding of complex phenomena and the implementation of subtle details. For this reason, the rules regarding the general design of supply devices, mould cavities, technical and rheological aspects as well as demoulding do not generally allow for advanced performances. This article presents improvement pathways and solutions in order to address issues regarding the designing of injection moulds for thermoplastics.

 INTRODUCTION

The industrial performance of injection molds depends on understanding subtle phenomena and choosing solutions that are often the result of judicious arbitration.

Plastic injection molds are the subject of two dossiers. The folder [ AM 3681 ] covers general mold design, cavity feeding methods, special techniques and peripherals.

The design of mould cavities, thermal and rheological aspects and constructive solutions for demoulding are the subject of the present dossier [AM 3682].
