INTRODUCTION
Assessing employee exposure to chemical substances requires some general knowledge.
While remaining succinct, this fact sheet will provide you with summary information on :
the routes by which toxic substances penetrate the body, and their relationship with workplace metrology;
the different types of measurement and their suitability for measuring operator exposure at the workstation;
the types of measures to be implemented, depending on the objective you are pursuing;
the last point deals with the issue of exposure variability, which is characteristic of risk assessment, and is a key to understanding it (see Ambient measurements: who to entrust them to and how often
and Interpreting and communicating measurement results[FIC 0109] ).[FIC 0110]
The orientation diagram (Tool Exposure control: orientation diagram ) associated with this sheet will give you a good idea of how to control exposure, using the different sheets presented here.
