7. Filtration

7.1 General concepts

The presence of impurities is a common reason for replacing cutting fluids. Impurities mainly consist of metal particles and foreign oils. They affect worker health, the performance of the machining system (tool, machine), and the surface condition of machined parts, and can cause deposits to form on equipment. The level of contamination (quantity and size of particles) depends on the different machining methods and/or the material being machined.

Chemical contamination of the emulsion during operation may also occur due to oil leaks from the various hydraulic systems of the machine tool.
