4. Conclusion

There is now no doubt as to the effectiveness of filters against nanoparticles, provided that the filter medium is adapted to the aerosol characteristics and operating conditions. The problem with nanoparticles is that the high specific surface area of nanoparticles or nanostructured particles means that manufacturers are obliged to increase the filtration surface area to limit the increase in pressure drop over time.

When the limit pressure drop value is reached, it is necessary to renew (in the case of ventilation filters) or regenerate (in the case of dust collectors) the filter media. However, due to the strong adhesion of nanoparticle deposits, filter media regeneration can be difficult or even ineffective. Solutions have been proposed (surface treatment, pre-coating), but the efficiency of these solutions with regard to nanoparticles has yet to be demonstrated....
