4. Conclusion

As part of a more general assessment of the feasibility of storing HA and MAVL waste in deep geological formations, a functional and feasibility analysis of suitable storage containers has been carried out, including a series of tests. Work on the specification and development of these containers is continuing in parallel with the preliminary design studies for the repository. This work combines materials and engineering studies, simulations, and the construction and testing of new demonstrators.

Demonstration operations are extended to include handling equipment, closely interfaced with the containers. They aim to test normal and degraded operating situations. In addition to qualifying specifications and processes, the visual nature of these operations helps to inform stakeholders about the disposal project.
