2. Chemical monitoring objectives

2.1 The benefits of continuous automatic controls

There are many advantages to using automated continuous monitoring of chemical parameters in a nuclear power plant, especially when compared with analyses of samples taken manually.

As the name implies, the main advantage of continuous monitoring by a chemical controller is the availability of a continuous (or semi-continuous for certain measurements) value for the parameter under consideration. The specific case of semi-continuous monitoring will be explained in paragraph .

But beyond this obvious interest, there are many advantages associated with these automated controls (Box 1).
