4. What is an IRVE and related regulations?

This section provides an overview of current and future EV charging infrastructure needs. The IRVE consists of a set of equipment enabling EV batteries to be recharged in complete safety. It comprises the main components, such as conventional electrical outlets, the various cables described in the previous step, the associated adapters and the charging station. Most charging sites use alternating current as their power source, due to its low cost and availability in residential areas, shops and public places. At present, the use of direct current as a second power source is growing, thanks to technological advances and above all to customers' need to reduce recharging time. This gives the diagram below.
