The cable to use to charge an EV depends on the type of plug installed on the EV (type 1 or type 2), the charging power, which varies between 1.8 kW and 22 kW on a normal charge, and the current conversion mode. This is because an EV's battery operates on direct current (DC), while the electrical supply network provides alternating current (AC), which must be converted. There are different types of cable.

2.1 AC charging cables

Charging cables are not the same from one continent to another, nor from one manufacturer to another. In this charging mode, two types of cable are preferred. Type 1 has five pins, while Type 2 has seven. Type 1 cable enables charging at a maximum power of 7.4 kW single-phase/32 A. It is often used on American and Asian EVs. Type 2...
