Decarbonated fuels are generally produced from biomass derived from any renewable organic plant, including dedicated energy crops and trees, agricultural food and feed crops, agricultural crop wastes and residues, wood waste, aquatic plants, animal waste, municipal waste and other wastes.
The CO 2 emissions their combustion generates can contribute to climate change. However, the combustion of bioenergy does not add to total carbon dioxide emissions as long as the biomass burned does not exceed renewed production (within a reasonable timeframe), or is not transformed in processes requiring CO 2 -forming energy.
