2. Thermal cutting

Cutting operations, like all those carried out in the workshop, must be "validated", i.e. the manufacturer must demonstrate his ability to carry out operations that meet CCE requirements. Thermal cutting operations include oxy-fuel cutting, plasma cutting and laser cutting.

The purpose of the requirements is clarified by EN 1090-2:2018: it concerns cut edges that remain free after the cutting operation. This means that edges intended for welding (e.g. chamfers) are not covered by this section of the standard, but by the section devoted to welding, under the heading of acceptance of substrates prior to welding.

The performance of the cut remains to be assessed in terms of :

  • quality of the cut surface: appearance of striations (regularity, retardation), edge fusion, tears on the face of the kerf,...
