1. Employment context and benefits

A hydraulic road binder is a finished product, manufactured in a factory and distributed ready for use. It takes the form of a mineral powder which, when mixed with water, forms a paste that sets and hardens progressively, both in air and under water.

Setting and hardening are due to the formation of stable hydrated compounds that are not very soluble in water, and which adhere strongly to each other and to the soil or aggregates to be treated, thus gradually creating increasing cohesion in pastes and mixtures.

What differentiates it from cement is :

  • its clinker content, which is generally low or zero;

  • slow setting and hardening kinetics, a property much sought-after in road construction for reasons of minimum material handling...
