A crane is often one of the key elements on a construction site. It must therefore be chosen with care, depending on the work to be carried out, the operating mode to be chosen, the company's fleet, and the cost that the equipment will represent (purchase or rental). To define the crane to be used, one of the foundations of the contractor's thinking is knowledge of the crane's purpose and capabilities. The contractor will also include crane erection and dismantling in the planning. Retroplanning must also include the various stages of checking the crane, and take into account the environment in which it will operate during the worksite.
