Hosting gear, cables, ropes, chains and slings

To lift a load, it is often necessary to sling it, i.e. to surround it with an element that will enable it to be gripped and lifted. Slinging can be carried out using a number of different elements:

• ropes ;

• flat slings made of woven webbing of chemical textiles ;

• wire ropes ;

• chains ;

• slings or apparatuses.

The choice of their characteristics will depend on the stresses to which they will be subjected, and corresponds to rules that must be known and observed.

In this way, accidents - usually serious - caused by breakage, such as falling loads or overturning lifting equipment, can be avoided.

Dangerous whipping can result from the sudden tension or breakage of a cable under excessive tension.

It is therefore essential to know the characteristics of these products.
